  16.      ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo displays various types of information about performance metrics
  17.      available through the facilities of the Performance Co-Pilot (PCP).

  19.      Normally ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo operates on the distributed Performance Metrics Name
  20.      Space (PMNS), however if the ----nnnn option is specified an alternative local
  21.      PMNS is loaded from the file _p_m_n_s_f_i_l_e.
  22.  
  23.      The metrics of interest are named in the _m_e_t_r_i_c_n_a_m_e arguments.  If
  24.      _m_e_t_r_i_c_n_a_m_e is a non-leaf node in the PMNS, then ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo will recursively
  25.      descend the PMNS and report on all leaf nodes.  If no _m_e_t_r_i_c_n_a_m_e argument
  26.      is given, the root of the PMNS is used.

  28.      Unless directed to another host by the ----hhhh option, ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo will contact the
  29.      Performance Metrics Collector Daemon (PMCD) on the local host.  The
  30.      connection to a PMCD is only required if ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo requires distributed PMNS
  31.      information, and/or meta-data describing metrics, and/or metric values,
  32.      and/or help text.

  34.      The ----aaaa option causes ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo to use the specified archive rather than
  35.      connecting to a PMCD.  The ----aaaa and ----hhhh options are mutually exclusive.

  37.      The ----bbbb option may be used to define the maximum size of the group of
  38.      metrics to be fetched in a single request for the ----ffff and ----vvvv options.  The
  39.      default batchsize is 20.

  41.      Other options control the specific information to be reported.

  43.      ----dddd   Metric descriptions detailing the PMID, data type, data semantics,
  44.           units, scale and associated instance domain.

  46.      ----ffff   Fetch and print values for all instances.  When fetching from an
  47.           archive, only those instances present in the first archive record
  48.           for a metric will be displayed; see also the ----OOOO option, else use

  52.           non-enumerable instance domains (e.g. metrics in the ``proc''

  74.      ----OOOO   When used in conjunction with an archive source of metrics and the
  75.           options ----ffff or ----FFFF, the _t_i_m_e argument defines a time origin at which
  76.           the metrics should be fetched from the archive.  Refer to
  77.           PPPPCCCCPPPPIIIInnnnttttrrrroooo(1) for a complete description of this option, and the
  78.           syntax for the _t_i_m_e argument.

  80.           When the ``ctime'' format is used for the _t_i_m_e argument in a ----OOOO
  81.           option, the timezone becomes an issue.  The default is to use the
  82.           local timezone on the system where ppppmmmmiiiinnnnffffoooo is run.  The ----ZZZZ option
  83.           changes the timezone to _t_i_m_e_z_o_n_e in the format of the environment
  84.           variable TTTTZZZZ as described in eeeennnnvvvviiiirrrroooonnnn(5).  The ----zzzz option changes the
  85.           timezone to the local timezone at the host that is the source of the
  86.           performance metrics, as identified via the ----aaaa option.

  88.      ----tttt   Print the ``one line'' help summary, if available.

  90.      ----TTTT   Print the help text, if available.

  92.      ----vvvv   Verify mode in which descriptions and values are retrieved, but only
  93.           error conditions are reported.  This option silently disables any
